OSCAR ‘FACES THE STORM’ – AMERICAN AKITA at 5 months

Having owned and trained the Akita breed for over 14 years and providing a number of Akita Charities with voluntary work for Akita temperament assessments and new owner home assessments checks for Akita rescue dogs. I decided to rescue an Akita through the JAWT, The Japanese Akita Welfare Trust.

My choice was Zeus, a hard to handle ‘Full On’ American Akita who lives with me and has a huge appetite for agility training. After meeting Zeus his previous owner Sam and his partner a few times before Sam gave me his blessing to rescue Zeus. I decided to adopt Zeus and train him, as he is a Full On American Akita with a beautiful personality.

I decided to rescue Zeus after the passing of Oscar, who was an amazing ‘cookies & cream’ American Akita, I had owned from a pup. Zeus was two years of age when I rescued him. Zeus gave me strength after the loss of my companion Oscar, who’s Japanese name ‘Face’s The Storm’, was a mantra of strength and joy through our life time together.

Zeus is my ‘Ben & Jerry’s’ American Akita as he displays wonderful coat patterns. I have given a Japanese name to Zeus of, ‘Howl At The Wind’, as Zeus is the first Akita I have ever met, who can ‘Howl’, when he is in ‘Full On’ mode. Zeus also has a Big Voice when in excitement mode.

The Akita breed is generally quiet but when it comes to ‘Barking’ they are powerful and formidable dogs, with a Big Voice.

Following 5 years of training, Zeus is a fully presented ‘Show Dog’ standard Akita. Zeus can perform tricks in Agility, Pressure Performance and Working Dog Abilities. Zeus is fully ‘Sniffer Trained’, as one of his specialities. The Akita Dog Breed is highly sensory and can learn at a very fast pace, more so than other Working Dog Breeds.

Having known the Akita Breed since I was in my early 20’s and having a background in dog training since I was a child of 8 with my family who provided training for security dogs for the British, German and South African Police and Army, I learnt at an early age about training with working dogs.

The TQ Akita Education and programme, provides the Akita Dog Owner with the education and skills and techniques needed to bring the best out in the relationship with the Akita for Positive Behaviour. New Akita Rescue Owners whose Rescue Dog have been trained in ‘The TQ Way’, are provided with specialist training videos as part of their adoption programme and are happy to work with their chosen Akita Charity should they need one to one training.
